What to Expect at Materna

Your Journey, Step by Step

At Materna, we provide accessible, same-day prenatal care, including ultrasounds, pregnancy confirmation, nausea and vomiting support, IV therapy, and early pregnancy symptom management, ensuring you feel supported whenever you need us. Early pregnancy can be challenging, leaving many women feeling unsupported in their early pregnancy symptoms. We’re here to ease your discomfort with compassionate, accessible support from OB/GYN experts for a confident start to your pregnancy journey.

What Happens During My First Appointment?

Your first appointment — whether in-person or via telehealth — begins with a consultation with our expert prenatal medical team. We’ll review your health history, perform a thorough exam focused on your symptoms, and offer any needed tests or treatments, like bloodwork, ultrasounds, or IV therapy, all explained in a way that’s supportive, clear, and easy to understand. We also offer prenatal counseling.

If you are experiencing nausea and vomiting, we’ll assess the severity of your symptoms using the HELP Score developed by the HER Foundation to create a care plan tailored just for you. We can start interventions as early as the fourth week, following ACOG guidelines for all our protocols.

At your first in-person appointment, we’ll have an in-depth discussion about your concerns and listen to your experience with pregnancy so far. We’ll perform a blood draw and urine analysis to review your results together before administering IV fluids. From there, our team will outline your ongoing care plan, including the recommended fluid schedule and any medications. Throughout your journey, you’ll have direct access to our team through our secure, HIPAA-compliant messaging app — because you should never have to navigate this alone.

If you experienced hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) in a previous pregnancy, we offer preconception visits to help you prepare for a healthier, more supported pregnancy. During your visit, we will review your medical history and past pregnancy, including the severity and treatment of your HG. We’ll discuss your risk for recurrence and what this could mean for your next pregnancy, then develop a personalized care plan to reduce the chance of severe symptoms, including nutrition, early medication strategies, and vitamin support. We establish early monitoring protocols so care can begin at the very first signs of pregnancy.
